Abu Dhabi Teacher Sentenced to Two Years for Assaulting Four Students
A teacher in Abu Dhabi received a two-year prison sentence for physically assaulting four students in a classroom.
An Abu Dhabi teacher was sentenced to two years in prison after admitting to physically assaulting four students at a private school. The Abu Dhabi Criminal Court also ordered his deportation and required him to cover all judicial expenses.
The teacher acknowledged striking the students during a lesson, stating that his actions were intended to prevent disorder and discipline their behaviour. The assaults caused injuries that incapacitated the students for up to 20 days.
Evidence from classroom CCTV footage corroborated the teacher's confession, showing the severity of the violence inflicted without any justification.
In its ruling, the court emphasized that the assault violated laws designed to protect public safety and individual rights. The Abu Dhabi Judicial Department highlighted that such acts, especially when occurring inside a school during class, disrupt public security and threaten personal safety and stability.
Under UAE federal law, physical assault by educators against students is illegal and may lead to criminal charges, disciplinary measures, and dismissal. The National Child Protection Policy in Educational Institutions, established in 2022, defines physical abuse as causing or failing to prevent physical harm to a child.
The UAE Crimes and Penalties Law stipulates that assaults resulting in injury or illness can be punishable by imprisonment and fines, with penalties varying based on the severity of harm caused.
