Food Delivery Rider Dies After Collision with Stationary Truck in Fujairah

An Asian food delivery rider lost his life in Fujairah on Friday morning after his motorcycle collided with a stationary truck on the Fujairah–Khorfakkan road near the Fouz area. This incident marks the fifth road fatality in the emirate this year.

The accident occurred at 8:05 a.m. on October 30 when the delivery rider's motorcycle struck a truck that was stopped in one of the traffic lanes. Emergency services, including police and ambulance crews, responded promptly to the scene. The rider was taken to Sheikh Khalifa Hospital in Fujairah, where he was pronounced dead. Authorities have launched an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the crash.

Brigadier Saleh Mohammed Abdullah Al Dhanhani, Director of the Traffic and Patrols Department at Fujairah Police, highlighted the dangers posed by stationary trucks and heavy vehicles on busy commercial roads. He emphasized the need for motorists to remain vigilant, reduce speed when approaching stopped vehicles, and maintain adequate stopping distances to safely react to unexpected obstacles.

Al Dhanhani also warned against distractions such as mobile phone use and sudden lane changes, stating that even momentary lapses in attention can drastically reduce reaction times and increase the risk of serious collisions.

This fatality follows another recent accident involving a 24-year-old Indian expatriate who was hit by an SUV while riding an electric scooter in Fujairah earlier this month. Investigations revealed the scooter rider was crossing the road at an unauthorized location, and the case has been forwarded to the public prosecution.

Fujairah Police have previously collaborated with Fujairah Municipality to conduct awareness programs targeting food delivery riders. These initiatives focus on educating riders about traffic laws, safe riding behaviors, and the consequences of violations such as speeding, unsafe overtaking, sudden maneuvers, and distractions, especially on roads shared with heavy vehicles.

Earlier this year, the police launched a traffic safety campaign aimed at protecting vulnerable road users, including motorcyclists. The campaign stressed the importance of wearing protective helmets, adhering to traffic regulations, and practicing defensive riding to reduce accident risks.

In addition to awareness efforts, authorities have increased traffic monitoring and enforcement against unsafe motorcycle riding to promote compliance with road safety rules. Motorists and delivery riders are urged to stay alert to changing road conditions, particularly near trucks, intersections, and stationary vehicles.
