UAE Airlines Delay and Cancel Riyadh Flights Following Houthi Missile Attack

Etihad Airways and flydubai postpone and cancel Riyadh flights after missile strikes on King Khalid Airport by Houthis.

UAE Airlines Delay and Cancel Riyadh Flights Following Houthi Missile Attack

Etihad Airways and flydubai announced delays and cancellations of flights to and from Riyadh on October 8, following a missile attack on King Khalid International Airport claimed by Yemen's Iran-backed Houthi forces.

Etihad Airways reported that flight EY555 from Abu Dhabi to Riyadh has been significantly delayed due to the airport's closure. Consequently, the return flight EY556 from Riyadh to Abu Dhabi will also experience delays.

Meanwhile, Dubai-based flydubai confirmed the cancellation of flights 855 and 856, operating between Dubai and Riyadh International Airport (RUH), for the day. The airline stated that no further schedule changes have been made at this time.

Details of the Houthi Attack

The Houthis claimed responsibility for targeting King Khalid Airport with a ballistic missile around midday. Their military spokesman, Yahya Saree, stated that the missile struck its intended target. This attack follows the Saudi-led coalition's report of intercepting two missiles aimed at Riyadh.

Saudi civil aviation authorities reported casualties resulting from attacks on two Saudi airports, with three fatalities and over 30 injuries.

Airlines' Responses

An Etihad Airways spokesperson described the situation as fluid, warning that further changes to flight schedules are possible. Passengers were advised to verify the status of their flights through the airline's website. The spokesperson emphasized that the safety and comfort of passengers and crew remain the airline’s top priorities and apologized for any inconvenience caused.

Flydubai also indicated that it is closely monitoring developments and will inform customers of any schedule modifications via its official communication channels.
