Dubai Gold Prices Drop Dh9.5 per Gram Ahead of Diwali Festivities
Gold prices in Dubai fell by Dh9.5 per gram on Friday, reversing most of Thursday's gains before the Indian festivals of Dhanteras and Diwali.
Gold prices in Dubai declined by Dh9.5 per gram at the start of trading on Friday, erasing most of the gains recorded on Thursday. The 24-karat gold price dropped to Dh487.5 per gram from Dh497 at Thursday's close. Earlier on Thursday, the price had increased by over Dh11 per gram.
Other gold purities also saw decreases: 22K gold fell to Dh451.5 per gram, 21K to Dh432.75, 18K to Dh371, and 14K, the most affordable option, declined to Dh289.25 per gram.
This downward movement in gold prices coincided with a global decline in precious metals, driven by concerns over rising inflation linked to increasing oil prices. Internationally, gold prices fell by 1.35 percent to $4,048 per ounce, while silver prices dropped by 1.4 percent to $51.61 per ounce.
The price volatility occurred just before the Indian festivals of Dhanteras on November 6 and Diwali on November 8, periods traditionally associated with increased gold purchases.
Despite short-term fluctuations, global demand for gold remains robust, supported by significant central bank acquisitions. These purchases highlight gold's ongoing role as a safe-haven asset and a tool for portfolio diversification. Experts suggest that while price swings may continue in the near term, the fundamental factors driving gold investment remain strong.
Vijay Valecha, Chief Investment Officer at Century Financial, noted the cultural and financial importance of gold in the UAE during these festivals. He added that investors are increasingly viewing gold beyond its traditional symbolism, considering it as part of broader investment strategies influenced by global economic trends. Valecha emphasized the importance of understanding the differences between various forms of gold investment, such as physical gold, ETFs, and CFDs, especially given the impact of global events on gold prices.
