UAE Gold Prices Fall Ahead of Diwali, Shifting Buyer Preferences

UAE Gold Prices Fall Ahead of Diwali, Shifting Buyer Preferences

Gold prices in the UAE have recently decreased ahead of the Diwali and Dhanteras festivals, influencing consumer behavior as buyers evaluate options such as purchasing coins, investing in lighter jewellery, or selling unused gold items.

The price correction compared to previous months has encouraged some buyers to make their annual festive gold purchases at more favorable rates. Meanwhile, others are closely monitoring market trends, comparing buyback policies, and contemplating exchanging old jewellery for new designs.

Industry experts note that the combination of festive demand and recent price shifts is affecting buying and selling decisions, with a traditional increase in gold purchases during this period.

Rishi Vaya of SellYourGold.ae explained that significant price changes often lead to varied responses: some sellers may act quickly to capitalize on high prices, while buyers tend to seize opportunities when prices drop. He added, "Lower rates present a clear opportunity, and we are currently seeing strong buying intent in the market." With Diwali, Dhanteras, and Christmas approaching, consumers who had been considering purchases find the current market conditions appealing.

Jewellery retailers report that fluctuating gold prices are making customers more mindful of their spending. Amreen Iqbal, founder of Piece of You Jewellery, said some customers choose to sell jewellery they no longer wear, while others redirect the value toward smaller or more versatile pieces. She observed that buyers are increasingly comparing prices, inquiring about buyback policies, and viewing gold as a long-term asset rather than a quick purchase.

Iqbal also highlighted sustained interest in gold coins, bars, and lightweight everyday jewellery despite the price changes. Vaya advised those planning to exchange old jewellery to conduct both selling and buying transactions with the same jeweller to avoid incurring losses from separate margins. He further emphasized the importance of understanding how gemstone settings and purity levels influence valuations and recommended dealing with buyers who offer transparent valuation methods.

For many residents, purchasing gold during Diwali remains a culturally significant tradition beyond market considerations. Manju Arora mentioned she buys gold annually during Dhanteras but is now considering gold coins for their ease of storage and investment potential. Bhavya Rao is monitoring price fluctuations and prefers to buy a lightweight jewellery piece this year. Rao also noted that the purchase helps maintain family traditions in the UAE and serves as a long-term investment for her daughters' future needs.
