Sheikh Mohammed Launches Annual Government Challenge with Dh9 Million in Prizes

Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, has introduced the Annual Government Challenge, a nationwide initiative aimed at encouraging federal government employees to create innovative solutions addressing national priorities.

Unveiled at the start of UAE Innovation Month, the challenge seeks to transform employees' ideas into practical and scalable projects that enhance government services, streamline operations, improve decision-making, and foster collaboration among federal ministries and entities.

The inaugural edition centers on the development of Agentic AI technologies to redesign government services and operations, boost decision-making capabilities, and elevate overall government performance.

Participants from all federal ministries and government entities are invited to submit their projects, with nine winners to be selected across three categories. The total prize pool amounts to Dh9 million.

Focus Areas and Evaluation Criteria

The competition is divided into three categories:

  • Government Services: Enhancing customer experience by simplifying procedures and delivering faster, proactive services.
  • Internal Operations: Reducing repetitive tasks, improving coordination, and increasing employee productivity.
  • Unconventional Ideas: Encouraging innovative approaches to government work that support national priorities.

Submissions will be evaluated based on alignment with strategic priorities, feasibility, the application of Agentic AI, measurable impact, scalability, governance, and sustainability. Teams and entities can register via the challenge's digital platform at challenge.gov.ae.

Strategic Vision and Future Plans

Mohammad bin Abdullah Al Gergawi, Minister of Cabinet Affairs and Chairman of the National Committee for the Agentic AI Project, highlighted that the initiative embodies the UAE leadership’s vision of a forward-looking government that leverages employee expertise to develop societal benefits. He noted that the next phase involves deploying Agentic AI assistants to collaborate with government staff, enhancing efficiency and productivity.

The UAE Government aims to transition 50 percent of its sectors, services, and operations to Agentic AI models within two years, targeting improved performance, faster service delivery, and increased preparedness for future challenges.
