UAE Forecasted to Experience Above-Average Rainfall and Temperatures in November

The UAE is expected to see higher than usual rainfall and temperatures in November, with increased fog and humidity, says the National Centre of Meteorology.

UAE Forecasted to Experience Above-Average Rainfall and Temperatures in November

The United Arab Emirates is anticipated to face a wetter and warmer November than usual, with rainfall and temperatures predicted to surpass long-term averages, according to the National Centre of Meteorology (NCM).

As the country moves into a transitional weather phase, residents can expect more cloud cover, occasional rain, elevated humidity levels, and a higher likelihood of fog, especially during early mornings.

The NCM reported that the typical rainfall for November is 6.9 millimeters, and the average temperature is 24.8 degrees Celsius. Both these figures are projected to be exceeded this month.

Although November generally signals the shift toward cooler winter weather, the forecast suggests above-average temperatures, increased rainfall chances, and humid mornings throughout the month.

Weather Influences and Rainfall Patterns

The NCM explained that November weather is affected by surface low-pressure systems originating from the Red Sea and eastern regions. When these interact with upper-air low-pressure systems arriving from the east or west, cloud cover intensifies, potentially leading to rain-bearing convective clouds, particularly over the eastern parts of the UAE.

This month historically shows significant weather variability, with the possibility of increased rainfall in 2024.

Historical data from the NCM highlights that the highest recorded November rainfall was 211.4 millimeters on Dalma Island in 2013.

Temperature extremes for November include a record high of 40.1 degrees Celsius in Sweihan in 2024 and a low of 4.1 degrees Celsius on Jebel Jais in 2009.

Humidity and Fog Conditions

Relative humidity tends to rise during November, particularly in the early morning hours, as moderate air masses move across the Arabian Gulf toward the UAE. This increase creates favorable conditions for fog and mist formation across various regions.

The average maximum relative humidity reaches about 80 percent during this period.

In November 2024, the UAE experienced the highest number of foggy days on record, with 21 days of fog and five days of mist. Additionally, Zayed International Airport recorded two fog events in November 2001, marking a notable occurrence.

Wind Patterns and Solar Radiation

Prevailing winds in November generally start as south-easterly in the morning and shift to north-westerly during the day. On some days, northerly winds may intensify, occasionally bringing more unsettled weather.

The strongest wind speed recorded in November was 97 kilometers per hour in Al Ruwais in 2013.

The NCM also noted historical fluctuations in solar radiation, with Dubai registering the highest daily solar radiation total of 7,306 watt-hours per square meter in November 2017, contrasting with the lowest daily total of 694 watt-hours per square meter in November 2019.
