Dubai Police Impound 218 Vehicles for Excessive Noise in October

In October, Dubai Police confiscated 218 vehicles and issued 518 fines due to violations related to excessive vehicle noise across the emirate.

Brigadier Juma Salem bin Suwaidan, Director of the General Department of Traffic at Dubai Police, explained that these violations were identified using specialised smart monitoring devices along with field inspection teams. The police intend to increase the number of these devices and deploy them at more locations throughout Dubai to enhance detection of noise violations.

Brigadier Suwaidan highlighted that loud noises from vehicles, whether caused by illegal modifications to engines and exhaust systems or reckless driving, disturb residents and negatively impact their mental well-being and sleep, especially affecting children, the elderly, and patients.

He emphasized that Dubai Police will enforce strict legal measures against drivers who intentionally create excessive noise and disrupt the community. This enforcement targets owners of modified vehicles with loud exhausts as well as sports car drivers who rev their engines or perform noisy stunts on public roads and in residential areas.

According to Suwaidan, owning a sports car or modifying a vehicle does not justify disturbing public peace. Violators may face vehicle impoundment as per the relevant laws.

Penalties for Noise Violations

  • Driving a vehicle that produces excessive noise results in a fine of Dh2,000 and 12 traffic points.
  • Unauthorized modifications to a vehicle’s engine or chassis incur a Dh1,000 fine, 12 traffic points, and a 30-day vehicle impoundment.
  • Vehicle release requires payment of Dh10,000 under Dubai Decree No. 30 of 2023 concerning vehicle impoundment.

Reporting and Compliance

Dubai Police urged motorists to adhere to traffic laws, maintain proper exhaust systems, and refrain from unauthorized modifications. Drivers are also advised against sudden acceleration or revving engines to produce loud noises, especially in residential neighborhoods and during nighttime.

Residents can report noisy or disruptive driving through the Police Eye feature on the Dubai Police smart app or by calling 901. The police stressed that ensuring road safety and maintaining public tranquility requires cooperation between authorities and the community.

What this means for you

  • Avoid modifying your vehicle's engine or exhaust system without proper authorization to prevent fines and impoundment.
  • Do not rev your engine loudly or accelerate suddenly in residential areas, especially at night.
  • If you witness noisy or disruptive driving, report it via the Dubai Police smart app or by calling 901.
  • Be aware that violating noise regulations can result in fines, traffic points, and vehicle impoundment.
