KT Desert Drive 2026 Offers UAE 4x4 Owners First Desert Driving Experience

UAE 4x4 owners prepare for their initial desert drive at KT Desert Drive 2026, with expert guidance and safety measures emphasized.

KT Desert Drive 2026 Offers UAE 4x4 Owners First Desert Driving Experience

Many four-wheel-drive vehicle owners in the UAE have yet to test their vehicles beyond urban roads, despite their capability to handle desert terrain. Concerns about getting stuck, vehicle damage, and unfamiliarity with desert driving have deterred them from venturing into the dunes.

With cooler weather encouraging outdoor activities, several SUV owners are now eager to attempt desert driving for the first time, ideally accompanied by experienced guides. Abdul Basit, who purchased a Toyota Land Cruiser last year with desert exploration in mind, has so far limited his driving to city streets and highways. He expressed a desire to try desert driving but prefers to do so under the supervision of an expert to avoid mishaps.

Similarly, Amr Mahmood, owner of a GWM Tank, has not yet driven his vehicle off-road. His main worry is the possibility of becoming stuck in soft sand and not knowing how to recover the vehicle. Mahmood aims to begin desert driving this winter and hopes to make it a regular activity once he gains confidence.

Expert Advice for Novice Desert Drivers

Ahmed Pervez, founder of Dubai Offroaders, emphasized that possessing a powerful 4x4 does not guarantee readiness for desert driving. He highlighted the importance of learning fundamental skills such as adjusting tyre pressure, vehicle recovery techniques, and desert safety protocols before attempting dune driving.

Pervez identified common errors among beginners, including improper tyre pressure, abrupt acceleration or steering, and entering the desert without experienced support. He advised reducing tyre pressure under expert guidance and maintaining smooth control to prevent getting stuck or losing control.

He also noted that not all four-wheel-drive vehicles are suitable for sand dunes. Vehicle suitability depends on factors like the type of four-wheel-drive system, ground clearance, tyre type, cooling capacity, and whether the vehicle has low-range gearing in its transfer case. Pervez recommended having the vehicle evaluated by an off-road professional and acquiring basic desert driving knowledge before attempting dunes.

KT Desert Drive 2026 Event Details

The upcoming eighth edition of the KT Desert Drive is scheduled for November 14 at Bab Al Shams Arena in Dubai. This event offers participants the chance to drive their own qualified 4x4 vehicles on a designated desert route, supported by checkpoints and assistance teams.

Dubai Offroaders serves as the official off-roading partner, facilitating an environment where experienced drivers, novices, and families can safely enjoy desert driving. Pervez stressed that beginners should complete training courses and gradually gain experience under expert supervision, even when participating in group drives.

He advised first-time desert drivers to never venture out alone, to carry necessary recovery gear, and always travel with experienced companions, underscoring that safety depends on skill rather than vehicle power alone.
