Hundreds Attend Funeral Prayers for Sheikh Ahmed bin Rashid Al Maktoum in Dubai

Hundreds of mourners assembled at Zabeel Mosque in Dubai on Tuesday to participate in the funeral prayers for Sheikh Ahmed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, who passed away on Monday. Attendees included government officials, businessmen, sports figures, supporters of Al Wasl Club, employees of ARM Holding, and long-time residents of Dubai, with some traveling from other emirates and Oman.

The mosque was filled to capacity as worshippers arrived early, some as early as 11:30 a.m., with many parking spaces nearby fully occupied, requiring some attendees to walk several minutes to reach the mosque. Police and security personnel were present to manage the gathering.

Sheikh Ahmed was a member of Dubai’s ruling family and had strong ties to Al Wasl Club, horse racing, and various institutions within the emirate.

Muhammad, an Omani businessman who was already in Dubai for meetings, altered his plans to attend the funeral prayers. He expressed that the close relationship between the UAE and Oman made Sheikh Ahmed’s death feel like the loss of a family member. He emphasized that the bond between the two nations extends beyond borders, and attending the funeral was a way to pay respects.

Several attendees recalled Sheikh Ahmed’s contributions to sports in Dubai. Salem, a sportsman, highlighted Sheikh Ahmed’s efforts in promoting sports as a means to improve health, discipline, and character, rather than focusing solely on competition victories. Supporters of Al Wasl and members of the sporting community were notably present to offer condolences.

An employee of ARM Holding, who requested anonymity, shared personal memories of Sheikh Ahmed’s humility. Despite his high status, Sheikh Ahmed would greet employees warmly, never making them feel subordinate. The employee described Sheikh Ahmed as a leader who treated everyone with kindness and simplicity, qualities that left a lasting impression on colleagues and the wider community.

The funeral prayer took place after the Dhuhr prayer, with hundreds standing together to honor Sheikh Ahmed. Following the conclusion of the prayers, many attendees remained inside the mosque for several minutes, offering condolences and embracing one another as the body was taken for burial.
