UAE's Likely Ramadan and Eid Dates for 2027 Announced by Astronomy Centre

The UAE's Astronomy Centre has released anticipated dates for key Islamic observances in 2027, corresponding to the year 1448 AH in the Hijri calendar. These projections assist residents in preparing for Ramadan, Eid Al Fitr, and Eid Al Adha next year.

In the Islamic calendar, months last either 29 or 30 days depending on the moon's visibility. The UAE's Moon Sighting Committee conducts monthly observations to determine the official start of each month, which influences the scheduling of religious events.

For 2027, the crescent marking the end of the month of Sha'ban is expected to be sighted on either Saturday, February 6, or Sunday, February 7. However, the Astronomy Centre noted that the crescent will likely not be visible from the UAE and other parts of the world on these dates due to the moon setting before sunset or the conjunction occurring after sunset. As a result, Sha'ban will last 30 days, and Ramadan is projected to commence on Monday, February 8, 2027.

Ramadan shifts approximately 10 to 12 days earlier each year; in 2026, it began on February 18.

Eid Al Fitr 2027

Eid Al Fitr is observed on the first three days of Shawwal, the month following Ramadan. The exact dates depend on the length of Ramadan. The Shawwal crescent is expected to be sighted on either Monday, March 8, or Tuesday, March 9.

If the crescent is observed on the evening of Ramadan 29 (March 8), Eid Al Fitr will begin on Tuesday, March 9. If not, and Ramadan extends to 30 days, Eid Al Fitr will start on Wednesday, March 10.

Eid Al Adha 2027

Eid Al Adha falls on the 10th day of Dhul Hijjah, the final month of the Islamic calendar, following the Day of Arafah on the 9th. The crescent for Dhul Hijjah is predicted to be sighted on Thursday, May 6, or Friday, May 7.

This means Dhul Hijjah will begin on either May 7 or May 8, placing Eid Al Adha on Sunday, May 16, or Monday, May 17, 2027.

The Astronomy Centre's data indicates that crescent visibility varies by location, with some areas unable to see the moon due to timing of moonset and conjunction, while others may require optical aid or optimal atmospheric conditions for naked-eye observation.
