Dubai Police Confiscate Over 13,600 Electric Scooters in Eight Months for Traffic Violations
Dubai authorities seized 13,657 electric scooters in eight months due to unsafe riding practices and traffic rule breaches.
Dubai Police have confiscated 13,657 electric scooters during the first eight months of 2026 amid intensified enforcement campaigns targeting riders who breach traffic regulations.
The operations focus on reducing hazardous riding behaviors to safeguard scooter users and other road users from accidents and serious injuries. Brigadier Juma Salem bin Suwaidan, Director of the General Department of Traffic at Dubai Police, emphasized that patrols will persist in addressing violations that endanger public safety.
A major infraction involves operating electric scooters on roads where speed limits exceed 60 km/h, despite the availability of designated scooter paths in various parts of Dubai.
Authorities are also cracking down on riders who travel against traffic flow, use pavements, commercial market areas, and narrow alleys, cross roads unsafely, weave between lanes separated by dividers, or ride in locations not intended for electric scooters.
Brig. Bin Suwaidan highlighted that these actions directly threaten the safety of both riders and other road users. He underscored the necessity for compliance with safety measures, including wearing helmets that meet approved standards and reflective vests, obeying traffic signals and signs, and following police directives.
Additionally, electric scooters must be fitted with a white front light and reflector, a red rear light and reflector, and have properly functioning brakes before use.
Brigadier Bin Suwaidan called on riders to adhere to designated paths, respect speed limits, and comply with all safety requirements to ensure safer riding conditions.
