Dubai's RTA Completes Al Marabea’ Street Upgrade, Cuts Al Quoz Peak Travel Times
Dubai’s RTA finishes Al Marabea’ Street enhancements, reducing peak-hour journeys in Al Quoz by 30%.
Dubai's Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has finalized upgrades on a 1.1-kilometre segment of Al Marabea’ Street, resulting in a 30% reduction in peak-hour travel times through Al Quoz.
The improvements span the stretch between the Al Khail Road exit and Al Asayel Street, increasing road capacity by 30% to ease traffic congestion. This corridor serves as a vital link connecting Al Khail Road with Al Asayel Street and provides access to Al Quoz’s industrial, commercial, and residential zones.
As part of the project, the RTA widened the road and added a new traffic lane at the intersection directing vehicles from Al Marabea’ Street towards Street 16A. These changes have halved congestion and vehicle queue lengths at this junction.
To enhance safety, new lighting poles were installed, improving visibility during nighttime driving.
This upgrade is part of the RTA’s broader 2026 initiative aimed at reducing journey times across Dubai through targeted traffic solutions and road network expansions, addressing increased demand from population growth and development.
Citywide Traffic Improvements
In 2025, the RTA completed 67 rapid traffic improvement projects throughout Dubai, achieving journey time reductions of up to 45% and increasing road capacity by as much as 33% on some routes. The authority plans to implement over 45 additional traffic enhancement measures in 2026.
Al Quoz has been a focus area for these upgrades. Earlier in the year, the RTA enhanced Latifa bint Hamdan Street by adding a new lane over two sections of a one-kilometre service road and introducing two new U-turns beneath the Latifa bint Hamdan Street-Al Asayel Street intersection, aiming to alleviate traffic congestion.
Work continues on Al Marabea’ Street, with remaining tasks including the construction of a new service road featuring a continuous pedestrian walkway serving the adjacent industrial area. Additionally, a new access point is being developed at the start of the Al Khail Road exit leading onto Al Marabea’ Street. These works are scheduled for completion by the end of August 2026.
Targeted Approach to Traffic Management
The RTA’s strategy emphasizes targeted interventions such as adding lanes, creating new road links, upgrading junctions, and improving access points to address congestion. This approach focuses on resolving specific bottlenecks that significantly impact journey times rather than relying solely on large-scale highway projects.
In February, the RTA announced that its 2026 rapid traffic solutions program would target eight key locations, with expected journey time reductions ranging from 15% to 30% in some areas.
