Dubai Drivers Clear Four Black Points by Participating in Traffic Safety Campaign

Dubai motorists who took part in the UAE’s annual Accident-Free Day campaign were able to remove four black points from their driving records by pledging to follow traffic safety rules and drive responsibly.

The campaign, which began registration on August 17 and culminated on August 31—the first day of the new school year—encouraged drivers to adhere to speed limits, maintain safe distances, wear seat belts, avoid mobile phone use while driving, stay in designated lanes, and obey road signs and markings.

For Reem Elsadig, the campaign offered more than just a chance to clear her record. She said the four black points on her license had been a constant reminder of a past driving error. Participating in the initiative made her more aware of her driving habits, prompting her to monitor her speed, keep safe distances, use indicators properly, and pay close attention to road signs and lane markings throughout the day.

Elsadig also noted that she avoided rushing even during busy traffic conditions. She emphasized that the campaign helped her understand that safe driving is not merely about avoiding fines or penalties but about ensuring the safety of oneself and others on the road. She particularly focused on staying within marked lanes and signalling intentions clearly to other drivers.

The campaign was timed to coincide with the start of the school year, a period when roads tend to be busier, especially near schools and residential areas. Authorities advised drivers to be patient, allow extra travel time, and remain vigilant for pedestrians, children, and school buses.

Another participant, Mohammed AlMazrouei, shared that the opportunity to remove four black points encouraged him to pay closer attention to speed limits, keep safe distances, and exercise caution when changing lanes. He highlighted that responsible driving extends beyond avoiding penalties to preventing accidents and protecting all road users.

Both motorists expressed that initiatives allowing drivers to correct their records can promote safer driving habits. Elsadig encouraged other drivers with black points to take advantage of such programs, stating, "Having black points does not mean that you cannot change. It is never too late to learn from a mistake, become more responsible and make the roads safer for everyone."
