Dubai Man Arrested for Running Fake Freelance Visa Scheme
Dubai authorities arrest a man for promoting fraudulent freelance visas and warn residents to verify visa offers through official channels.
A man known for his involvement in the arts and entertainment sector in his home country has been detained in Dubai for allegedly promoting fake freelance visas in exchange for money, authorities announced on Thursday.
The arrest was made by the General Directorate of Identity and Foreigners Affairs – Dubai (GDRFA Dubai), in collaboration with Dubai Police, as part of ongoing efforts to combat illegal visa and residency practices.
The investigation began when officials discovered a fraudulent document in an individual's possession. Further inquiries revealed details about the document and identified others allegedly involved in issuing and promoting the fake visas.
Major General Dr Ali bin Ajif Al Zaabi, Assistant Director General of the Violators and Foreigners Follow-up Sector at GDRFA Dubai, explained that the suspect was involved in offering fraudulent freelance visas to individuals seeking employment and residency in the UAE.
He cautioned that some people and groups exploit the aspirations of those wishing to enter the UAE or regularise their residency by making false promises outside official channels, often using digital platforms.
Authorities traced the fraudulent document back to the suspect and others involved, leading to legal action against those responsible.
Al Zaabi urged the public to avoid unreliable offers and to verify all visa and residency information through official authorities before making any payments or sharing personal data.
GDRFA Dubai continues to monitor digital platforms for advertisements and offers related to work visas and residency permits that are sold outside authorised channels. Such offers may appear under the names of unauthorised entities or social media accounts and sometimes falsely imply connections with official bodies.
Major General Khalaf Ahmed Al Ghaith, Assistant Director General of the Entry Permits and Residency Sector at GDRFA Dubai, emphasized that all visa and residency transactions should be conducted through official authorities or licensed service offices.
He highlighted the importance of verifying the source of any visa or residency offer before providing personal information or making payments.
GDRFA Dubai called on residents and prospective visitors to the UAE to confirm offers and services through official channels and to report any suspicious activities by unauthorised entities.
The authority noted that protecting customers requires clear procedures, access to accurate information, community awareness, and cooperation in reporting fraudulent schemes.
