Khalaf Al Habtoor Denies Plans to Buy Egyptian Football Club Al Zamalek
UAE billionaire Khalaf Al Habtoor refutes reports of purchasing Al Zamalek amid asset sale in Lebanon.
UAE businessman Khalaf Al Habtoor has publicly denied claims that he intends to acquire the Egyptian football club Al Zamalek or invest in its affiliated football company.
The denial was issued on the same day that Al Habtoor's group announced its decision to sell all assets and investments in Lebanon, including hotels, commercial and residential properties, and land holdings.
Al Habtoor described the reports as entirely false, stating he has not made any offers to buy or invest in the club nor engaged in any negotiations. He also dismissed any published figures or alleged agreements as unrelated to reality.
The 77-year-old billionaire expressed his deep respect for Al Zamalek and all Egyptian sports clubs and their supporters. He highlighted his ongoing commitment to supporting Egyptian youth and their achievements, citing previous initiatives as examples.
Earlier this year, Al Habtoor gifted Mitsubishi vehicles to the entire Egyptian national football team in recognition of their notable performance at the FIFA World Cup, coordinated with the Egyptian Football Association. Despite Egypt's elimination in the round of 16 after losing to Argentina, the team impressed by challenging the reigning champions led by Lionel Messi.
Al Habtoor clarified that while he supports sports and youth development, investing in and managing football clubs is a different matter. He stated he holds no investments in this sector, does not claim expertise in managing sports clubs, and has no intention to enter this field.
He urged media outlets to verify information carefully before publishing news related to his name or business ventures.
Concluding his statement, Al Habtoor conveyed his affection and respect for Egypt and its people, wishing Al Zamalek and all Egyptian clubs continued success and further achievements in sports.
