High-achieving Abu Dhabi public school graduates will receive free Hafilat cards for one year to ease public transport access.
Abu Dhabi has announced that high-performing public school students will receive complimentary Hafilat cards for one year. This initiative targets high school graduates in government schools who achieve an average score of 95 percent or higher during the 2025–2026 academic year.
The Hafilat card is used to pay fares for public buses within Abu Dhabi as well as intercity buses connecting various regions. It simplifies travel by eliminating the need to purchase multiple tickets.
Types of Hafilat Cards
- Anonymous Card – Costs Dh10 and is designed for tourists, visitors, and occasional travelers. It does not require registration.
- Personalised Card – Also priced at Dh10, this card is intended for residents and regular commuters. Registration is mandatory, and applicants must present their Emirates ID.
- Student Card – Available for Dh5 to eligible students upon presenting a student ID and any additional documentation requested by the transport department.
- Senior Citizen Card – Provided free of charge to qualified UAE senior citizens eligible for concessionary transport benefits. Registration and Emirates ID presentation are required.
To activate a Hafilat card, an initial minimum top-up is generally necessary. The balance can be used to pay for individual bus fares or to purchase weekly, monthly, or annual travel passes, according to the official transport website.
In addition to the free card, eligible students will benefit from expedited service at a dedicated counter, enhancing their public transport experience.
