UAE Condoles Indonesia Over Deadly Earthquake Impact
UAE expresses sympathy for Indonesia after a 7.7 magnitude earthquake kills 47 and causes widespread damage.
The United Arab Emirates has extended its condolences to Indonesia following a powerful earthquake that struck the country on August 15, resulting in numerous casualties and significant property damage.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the UAE issued a statement expressing sincere sympathy to the families of those affected, as well as to the Indonesian government and people. The ministry also conveyed wishes for a swift recovery for those injured in the disaster.
According to Indonesia's National Disaster Mitigation Agency (BNPB), a magnitude 7.7 earthquake, accompanied by dozens of aftershocks, hit off the eastern region of Indonesia on Saturday. The agency confirmed that at least 47 people have died as a result.
Rescue operations have been hampered in Nagekeo, the area nearest to the earthquake's epicenter, due to landslides that have blocked roads and disrupted communication networks.
Local resident Nona, 51, from the village of Talibura in East Nusa Tenggara, described the intensity of the quake: "The quake was massive, the shock was so strong. There were 13 of us inside the house and we all ran to save ourselves."
