UAE Families Enjoy Final Long Weekend Before School Resumes

Residents across the United Arab Emirates are making the most of the last extended weekend before the new school year begins on August 31. The three-day weekend coincides with the end of the summer break, offering families extra time together before children return to their studies.

The UAE government declared Friday, August 28, a public holiday for both public and private sectors to mark the birthday of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH). This creates a three-day weekend for those who usually have Saturdays and Sundays off.

Families are using this period for various activities, including short trips, staycations, and family gatherings, balancing enjoyment with preparation for school.

Dubai mother Mouza, whose children Hasher and Almaith are entering Grades 3 and 1 respectively, explained that their plans focus on light and enjoyable activities. She said, "We like short outings and family gatherings at this time because they make the children happy without tiring them out. We want the last few days of the holiday to be fun, without a packed schedule or exhausting travel, especially with schools just around the corner." The family is also gradually adjusting the children's sleep schedules, organizing school supplies, and fostering excitement about the upcoming academic year.

Similarly, Ajman resident Abeer Al Nuaimi, who has three children, chose to spend the weekend at the grandparents' home in Dubai. The family prepared a swimming pool and large water slides, inviting cousins to join for swimming, water games, and ice cream. Al Nuaimi noted their goal was to create joyful and simple family memories before school resumes.

These activities reflect a common approach among UAE families to balance relaxation and readiness during the final days of summer vacation.
