Abu Dhabi Reduces Speed Limit to 100 km/h on E311 from September 14

Abu Dhabi Mobility has announced a reduction in the speed limit on Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Street (E311), effective from Monday, September 14. The maximum permitted speed will be lowered from 120 kilometers per hour to 100 kilometers per hour in both directions along this key highway.

The affected section extends between Al Shamkhah in the north and Madinat Al Riyad, near Baniyas Cemetery, in the south. This corridor includes traffic traveling toward both Abu Dhabi and Dubai, covering the stretch between the At Turoush Street/Tawi Al Qaymah Street junctions and the Al Khayr Street interchange.

Known also as Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Road in Dubai and other emirates, E311 has seen several speed limit adjustments as part of Abu Dhabi’s ongoing efforts to enhance road safety. In April 2025, the minimum speed limit of 120 km/h on E311 was removed to facilitate safer and smoother movement, especially for heavy vehicles, while the maximum speed at that time remained 140 km/h.

Further reductions were implemented in February 2026 on major roads across Abu Dhabi. The Joint Traffic Safety Committee lowered speed limits on the Abu Dhabi–Al Ain Road (E22) from 160 km/h to 140 km/h between Al Nahda and Bani Yas interchanges, and from 140 km/h to 120 km/h from Bani Yas Interchange to the Bridge Complex. Additionally, Al Rawdah Road (E30) saw its speed limit reduced from 120 km/h to 100 km/h in both directions.

In October 2025, authorities introduced a variable speed limit system on Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Street, enabling speed adjustments based on real-time conditions such as congestion, incidents, roadworks, and weather. These measures form part of a broader strategy to improve traffic safety and manage road conditions effectively across the emirate.
