UAE Introduces Flexible Work Hours for Government Staff as Schools Reopen

The United Arab Emirates has introduced flexible working hours for government employees in anticipation of the new school year beginning on Monday, August 31.

Under the Flexible Work Policy issued by the Federal Authority for Government Human Resources, public sector workers are allowed to modify their start and end times by up to three hours. This adjustment aims to help employees manage their responsibilities as their children return to school.

Specifically, federal government employees with children in primary school or higher can request flexible hours on the first day of school. The policy also takes into account varying school start dates across different educational curriculums.

For employees with children in nurseries or kindergarten, the flexibility extends to the entire first week of the school term. Additionally, government workers may seek flexible hours on days when they need to attend parent-teacher meetings, graduation ceremonies, or other significant school-related events.

This initiative, which has been in effect since 2024, is designed to offer necessary adaptability in the workplace while ensuring that employee productivity and service delivery remain unaffected.
