Dubai Bans Exaggerated Claims in Medical Advertising on Social Media

Dubai Health Authority prohibits misleading medical ads with exaggerated claims by clinics and doctors.

Dubai Bans Exaggerated Claims in Medical Advertising on Social Media

The Dubai Health Authority (DHA) has introduced new regulations restricting the use of exaggerated and absolute claims in medical advertisements by healthcare providers licensed in Dubai.

Under these rules, doctors and healthcare facilities are prohibited from using phrases such as "the best," "100%," "no side effects," and "immediate results" when promoting their services on social media platforms. The regulations aim to prevent misleading advertisements that could create unnecessary demand for treatments or exploit patients' limited medical knowledge.

The DHA clarified that the guidelines apply to all advertisements related to health products, services, facilities, professionals, treatments, or therapies. The authority specifically forbids the use of words and expressions that imply guaranteed or unparalleled outcomes. Examples of banned terms include "unique," "one of a kind," "exclusive," "safest," "the only," "incomparable," "unprecedented," "magic," "miraculous," "assured success," "absolutely certain," "distinguished," "famous," "pioneer," and others.

These measures reflect the DHA's commitment to ensuring that medical advertising remains truthful and does not mislead the public, thereby protecting patient interests and promoting ethical marketing practices in the healthcare sector.
