Abu Dhabi Driver Sentenced to Jail and Fined for Wrong-Way Driving
An Abu Dhabi motorist received six months in jail, a Dh100,000 fine, and a three-year license suspension for driving the wrong way.
An Abu Dhabi driver was sentenced to six months in prison and fined Dh100,000 for driving in the wrong direction. The Abu Dhabi Judicial Department also ordered the confiscation of the motorist's vehicle and suspended his driving license for three years.
The UAE enforces strict traffic regulations with severe penalties, including substantial fines and vehicle seizures, to maintain road safety and compliance.
Separately, in June 2026, an Abu Dhabi motorist was convicted of reckless driving and sentenced to six months in prison along with a Dh50,000 fine. The Abu Dhabi Criminal Court determined that the driver had swerved multiple times while on the road.
In addition to the jail term and fine, the court imposed a Dh20,000 payment representing the value of the vehicle involved, which was found to belong to another individual. This brought the total financial penalty to Dh70,000. The driver's license was also suspended for one year, effective after the completion of the prison sentence.
